Advancing Dental Imaging
Surround Medical had developed a new dental imaging system, TomoD and needed expert visual design and workflow improvements to complete their vision. This system is a nanotechnology-based 3D imaging system offering high resolution x-ray image quality. The 3D image provides a layer by layer virtual dissection of the oral cavity, with depth information and the capability of removing structural overlap to clarify diagnostic imaging.
Collaboration, Trust and Shared Success
Our client had captured their user experience vision for the TomoD software in early wireframes. My teams flexibility made it easy to approach, and merge with our client’s internal development team.
We audited the work-to-date, and refined the screen flows into a consistent navigational architecture. We tightened up the sub-navigation and interaction patterns to increase the learnability of the new user interface.
Progress was smooth because of our mutual dedication to building a collaborative team culture from the start. Combined sprint planning sessions and scrum meetings were key to good communication and achieving project milestones.
Visual Positioning and Usable Design Systems
Referencing elements of the client’s corporate brand mark (color, form and typography) as a starting point, our team led the effort to create a fully branded product design. My team and I led client stakeholders through a series of exercises to agree on a visual position and how it impacted the TomoD system’s presence in the marketplace.The end result balances the technology forward tone balanced with softened and humanized details.
Our combined background in usability means we think about these transition points and work with developers to make their lives easier. Systemized designs that are driven by asset libraries, reused components, and consistent templates make the design intent crystal clear and handoff to software development efficient.
